Barcoding

You can use barcode scanners with OSPOS.  Here's how.

Start by adding the UPC code, EAN code, or ISBN code to the product.

You can do this while adding a new item to the system or when importing items into the system.

The easiest way to find the code is by scanning the barcode into a text editor, such as Notepad on Windows.

Then simply cut and paste the code into the UPC/EAN/ISBN field.

Note: You can scan the barcode directly into the form or spreadsheet, but you may see error messages, depending on how your barcode scanner is configured.

Also, if you are using Excel, remember that the UPC/EAN/ISBN code is text, not a number, so set that particular column as text, so the leading zeroes aren't chopped off.

Anyway, when you want to sell an item, go to the Sales screen and scan the item's barcode into the Find/Scan Item field.

Scan item

This will automatically add the item to the sale, as long as your barcode scanner is configured properly.

If you want to sell more than one of the items, you can either manually change the Qty. field or just scan the barcode again.

Note: You can use your barcode scanner when receiving inventory items as well.

Most inventory items already have a barcode, and it's usually easier just to use those.

OSPOS does have the ability to print barcodes though.

Go to the Items screen, and check off the inventory items you need barcodes for.

Then click the Generate Barcodes button.

Generate Barcodes button

This will generate some barcodes that you can print with a barcode printer or laser printer.

Note: these barcodes are customizable. Take a look in the Store Config under Barcode.
